Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed received mixed to positive reviews. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the Microsoft Windows version 84.36. Download NFS Porsche v3.5.20040310 Patch for Need for Speed Porsche Unleased. Patch for: Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed Need For Speed - Porsche 2000 Enhanced. I should have done that to begin with lol. Ok here it goes. Apparently there is a bug on the Normandy Track. It has to do with the Sky files.

I was trying to get Porsche Unleashed running on XP and ran into just major problems. I found several supposed patches for WinXP, this one here kinda works, but the game runs slow, but if I try to start the program now, nothing happens. I tried the patch on this site, again no dice. I looked at Ntcompatible.com, nfscheats.com, nfsunlimited.net, etc, no luck there. I tried compatibility mode.nope. I tried the EA autoupdater.nope.even in compatabililty mode. I checked EA tech support, their method is crap and doesn't explain anything. I tried deleting gimme.dll and it doesn't work. The only thing I haven't tried is adjusting the swap file. I will give it a shot and see what happens. I have 1 GB RAM.

Anybody else have these problems? I just wanted to give the game a whirl again, didn't think it would have such issues. Originally posted by rhettro That's the one thing that's always bugged me about the NFS series, all the older versions are incompatible with 2000 or XP. I think Hot Pursuit 2 was the first version to actually work with XP. It's probably easier to setup a 98 partition or stick to the newer versions. I'm waiting for Porsche Unleased 2 myself.

Yep after I tried to get the swap file method to work and having it bock out on me, I turned my spare 20 GB drive into a Windows 98 drive. I slapped 98 on it last night, took a few workarounds as the install took a few tries to get going. I will install drivers and the like later on and try the game out. I think its the only 2 games that have given me trouble on 2000 and XP. That being NFS High Stakes and NFS Porsche Unleashed.

The patch listed at actually does work now, but running the game is so slow. Running at about 20 FPS. Basically install the game normally and replace the porsche.exe with the one from this patch, and it should work.

This patch forces the game to run in Windows 95 layer. But if you try to manually force into Win95 it won't work. Minor Update: I have been able to run the game under Windows XP SP2 without too many problems, however, its a slide show.

I did some messing around and decided to lower my AGP Aperture, I bumped it down to 64 MB, and now Porsche Unleashed is a tad faster. Maybe the problem with this game is the AGP Aperture and might not have anything to do with memory size, page files, USB devices, etc. It might be a just a right combination of AGP Aperture, driver revision, and system memory. I have 1GB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 MB RAM, at 64 MB AGP Aperture, the game is noticeably faster than at 128.

Still a tad unplayable. If I set it to a low value, then I will disable AGP, is there a way to do this without lowering the value in the BIOS?

Eg, can I run NFS 5 in some sort of mode that disables AGP and trick the game into thinking its running with a PCI video card???
